This Thanksgiving long-weekend (October 6-8th) my Handsworth High School team competed in and won the Bridgman Cup Tournament in Victoria BC. This prestigious, invite-only tournament was first founded in 1937 making it the oldest field hockey tounament in North America. We made it through undefeated and played Collingwood in the finals. It was a close game (3-3) that ended in an exciting round of shootouts. I scored the winning shoot out goal for my team (video below) and we got to enjoy the longstanding tradition of having post game tea with the tournament organizers after the game. As one of the two team captains I was so proud of how we came together and played, especially against Collingwood as we lost to them earlier in the season. Bridgman Cup has always been an amazing gelling experience for our school team and I was so glad we were lucky enough to come back this year. No matter the outcome, we always leave this tournament feeling more confident and connected as a team and ready to pursue the AAA provincial title.
